DESCRIPTION:North State Together is proud to be a designated Lumina Talent Hub. We work collaboratively to enhance educational options and boost economic development by re-engaging adults who have left the formal education system. \nMany backbone organizations throughout the National Talent Network have gone through or are preparing to go through key leadership transitions. Others are facing high-levels of staff turnover and are eager to learn how other backbone organizations are providing development opportunities\, growth\, and otherwise engaging in staff retention strategies\, especially in organizations that are relatively flat and don’t offer clear paths to upper management/leadership. \nThis month’s webevent will bring honest and open conversations to fellow practitioners from those that have tried\, stumbled\, failed\, and/or succeeded in navigating leadership transition and succession planning. During the hour-long session\, two partnerships will take 15 minutes to share their process\, the results\, and the lessons they learned going through transitions. Following these presentations\, participants will break off into small breakouts where you can ask the presenters questions and generate some conversation. SUMMARY:AvenueM Webinar for Students Who Wish to Become Physicians!
DESCRIPTION:AvenueM is a community college to medical school pathway program that aims to reduce barriers to entry to medical and other healthcare careers. The new pathway\, known as AvenueM (the M is for Medicine) will identify community college students interested in studying health sciences. Staff will provide academic support\, ensure students’ seamless transfer to any of three participating four-year colleges\, then steer them toward the UC Davis School of Medicine. \nUC Davis School of Medicine will partner with three 4-year institutions – UC Davis\, California State University (CSU)\, Sacramento\, and Cal Poly Humboldt – and a network of community colleges\, including Shasta College. \nAvenueM aims to provide support and mentorship to students from communities that have traditionally been underrepresented in medicine (URiM) to become physicians\, including but not exclusive to: Black\, American Indian & Alaska Native\, Native Hawaiian\, Hispanic or Latino\, Filipino\, Hmong\, Cambodian\, Lao\, Mien\, and Vietnamese. \nAn information session is open to all students on Oct. 24 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Interested counselors\, school staff and students should register at this link: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_oGR0kv4JTauAStRl2of5xA. \nTo learn more\, visit: https://avenuem.ucdavis.edu/ \n

One contributing factor is the sheer number of admission\, enrollment\, and orientation-related tasks they must complete during the spring and summer of their senior year. Join us to explore how one county’s school counselors banded together with their local colleges to share these tasks in an effort to develop an added safety net for seniors. Through a “data-sharing MOU\,” colleges were able to share the status of each student’s completion of these tasks with their high school counselors\, who were then able to follow up. The county has seen great enrollment rate success as a result. Thursday\, May 19\, 2022 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Online Click here to Register   \nFor more information on:  https://www.nspdc.csuchico.edu/#/nspdc/communityeconomicresiliencefund(cerf)  \nNORTH STATE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COLLECTIVE PROPOSES TO CONVENE THE NORTH STATE’S 10-COUNTY REGION IN COMMUNITY ECONOMIC RESILIENCE FUND (CERF) PROCESS   April 25\, 2022–Background: The CERF was created to promote a sustainable and equitable recovery from the economic distress of COVID-19 by supporting new plans and strategies to diversify local economies and develop sustainable industries that create high-quality\, broadly accessible jobs for all Californians. The Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR)\, the California Labor Workforce Development Agency (LDWA)\, and the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz)-which together form the CERF Leadership Team—is facilitating the development of the CERF. Geographic Boundaries have been determined\, consisting of 13 regions in California which will receive planning grants ($5 million per region) and implementation funds through a competitive process.   A Collaborative\, Inclusive Process: The North State Planning and Development Collective (NSPDC) at California State University\, Chico\,  is proposing to serve as a Convener for the North State’s 10-County region\, which consists of Butte\, Glenn\, Lassen\, Modoc\, Plumas\, Shasta\,  Sierra\, Siskiyou\,  Tehama and Trinity counties.   As Convener\, the NSPDC is tasked with organizing an inclusive group of regional stakeholders\, submitting the CERF Solicitation for Proposal\, and implementing the planning grant in the region. He provides leadership and strategy for the organization’s policy\, advocacy and mobilization work\, while also leveraging national partnerships to accelerate progress throughout the Cradle to Career Network. \n1:45-2:15 Achieving Policy Change through Collective Impact: Judy Flores\, Shasta County Office of Education Superintendent: Shasta County Office of Education’s American Indian Advisory played a pivotal role in new legislation that provides excused absences for California students attending Native cultural ceremonies and events. The bill\, sponsored by Assembly member Megan Dahle\, addresses one of the primary causes of Native student’s chronically high rates of absenteeism. Judy will present on this incredible work that was done in our own communities and capture what happens when we use data to identify a challenge\, but then use personal stories\, multiple perspectives\, and most of all listening to understand the root causes. The tremendous collective work has led to a new statewide policy AB 516 that will positively impact the north state and California as a whole. \n2:30-3:45 County Pilot Projects: Dr. Kate Mahar\, Executive Director of SCAILE will facilitate the introduction of a pilot project that each county can identify and launch during the next 18 months with support from North State Together and SCAILE. The 18 month support plan will also be introduced. \n3:45-4:45 North State Together Policy Priorities: Mike Mozina\, Senior Manager of Policy and Partnerships at StriveTogether\, Josh Davis\, Vice President of Policy and Partnerships at StriveTogether\, Jamie Spielmann\, Director of Planning and Development at North State Together\, and Dr. Kate Mahar\, Executive Director of SCAILE will facilitate this discussion on the framework for identifying our North State Together policy priorities. North State Together endorses legislation and policies as appropriate and issues community-wide calls to action for opportunities that have strong support from our local and regional county networks partners.
