SUMMARY:Succession Planning & Leadership Transitions - A National Talent Network Webevent
DESCRIPTION:North State Together is proud to be a designated Lumina Talent Hub. We work collaboratively to enhance educational options and boost economic development by re-engaging adults who have left the formal education system. \nMany backbone organizations throughout the National Talent Network have gone through or are preparing to go through key leadership transitions. Others are facing high-levels of staff turnover and are eager to learn how other backbone organizations are providing development opportunities\, growth\, and otherwise engaging in staff retention strategies\, especially in organizations that are relatively flat and don’t offer clear paths to upper management/leadership. \nThis month’s webevent will bring honest and open conversations to fellow practitioners from those that have tried\, stumbled\, failed\, and/or succeeded in navigating leadership transition and succession planning. During the hour-long session\, two partnerships will take 15 minutes to share their process\, the results\, and the lessons they learned going through transitions. Following these presentations\, participants will break off into small breakouts where you can ask the presenters questions and generate some conversation. We will not be recording this session. \nGuest presenters include: – Dr. Tom Lasley\, Learn to Earn Dayton (Dayton Talent Hub) – Stacy Schweikhart\, Learn to Earn Dayton (Dayton Talent Hub) – Dr. Janet Cunningham\, Education to Employment Partners (Corpus Christi Talent Hub) – Jeffery West\, Education to Employment Partners (Corpus Christi Talent Hub) \nJoin us for this intimate conversation on this important topic.

SUMMARY:Thrive Rural Open Field Session: Ensuring Rural Communities Welcome Everyone
DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC) announced the establishment of their Northern California Hub which supports rural education in far northern California. North State Together\, along with California State University\, Chico\, anchors the hub which serves far northern California communities in the following ways: \n\nThe hub is a vehicle for organizing and sharing the “transformational” work being done in the region by the Chico State-North State Together partnership.\n• RSC connects the far northern California hub to other regional hubs through a small and lean national operations office with a strong emphasis on social marketing.\n• Through the hub\, RSC and the Chico State-North State Together partnership work together to create\, fund\, and share innovative work and activity.\n\nIn light of rural schools and communities\, we would like to share this awesome webinar opportunity: \nWebinar Information: \nOur discussion question: How can we work to ensure that each and every person is welcomed to the community\, feels connected\, and is able to exercise and influence power in community decision-making? \nThe challenge: Rural communities are generally stereotyped as friendly\, welcoming places. While this may certainly be true for some\, there is also a strong history of suspicion of outsiders\, especially if they look\, sound\, or act differently from the local population. This kind of resistance or rejection is a structural barrier to opportunity for the excluded groups and the larger community. \nThe opportunity: The changing demographics and growing diversity of many rural communities present the opportunity for long-time residents to engage one another and newcomers in a process of mutual learning that can foster a healthier community dynamic. \nRegardless of population growth\, more and more rural practitioners talk about the difficulty of bringing their communities together because of sharp political divides and mistrust of information and even local institutions. \nEvidence shows that communities that can foster a sense of belonging and welcoming are more likely to have healthy individual residents who are more engaged and socially connected. \nWe want you to join the discussion! Anyone and everyone interested in techniques for fostering community belonging for new and long-time residents should attend to share a success story or experience and hear from others. \nWe will kick off the gathering with a quick\, optional peer networking meet-and-greet. Then the whole group will engage in a conversation moderated by Chris Estes\, Aspen CSG’s Co-Executive Director. You don’t have to share your voice to participate in the event; we encourage you to send insights in the chat or simply listen. All are welcome. \nREGISTER HERE!
