WEBINAR — CA Teacher Education Program “Deserts”
April 23 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT
California is experiencing a teacher shortage crisis, but certain regions of the state are more impacted than others. New UCLA CTS research profiles nine rural border counties in California that have limited access to Teacher Education Programs (TEPs). These counties, which CTS researchers classify as teacher education “deserts”, face unique challenges in recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers. The nine counties are Alpine, Del Norte, Imperial, Inyo, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Sierra, and Siskiyou.
Join the California Educator Diversity Project research team along with leaders from the field in exploring the profound impact that geographic location and economics have on the regional teacher supply. They will discuss the characteristics of teacher education deserts in California and evidence-based recommendations for addressing teacher supply issues in these regions.
