North State Together is proud to be a designated Lumina Talent Hub!

What’s a Talent Hub you say?

The Talent Hub designation signifies that our regional cross-sector partnership has met rigorous standards for creating environments that attract, retain, and cultivate talent, particularly among today’s students many of whom are the first in their families to go to college, and from low-income households.

Bestowed by CivicLab, the Talent Hub designation is the only designation of its kind, is independently enforced, and serves as both an aspirational target for other communities to aim and a platform from which partnerships designated as Talent Hubs can build. We work collaboratively to enhance educational options and boost economic development by re-engaging adults who have left the formal education system. Expanding programs such as ACE, BOLD, STEP UP and the Siskiyou County Adult Ed Diploma, North State Together supports adults who seek credentials or career opportunities. North State Together builds off successful partnerships with local businesses, tribal communities and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act partners to help adults explore careers through a regional career portal and a virtual job-shadowing program. “These communities are the creative and entrepreneurial engines that power our nation,” said Jamie Merisotis, president and CEO of Lumina Foundation. “For our country to meet growing demand for an educated workforce, we must bolster community-based efforts that are tightly focused on increasing the numbers of people in cities across the country with education and training beyond high school.”

Cross-sector partnerships around the country are tackling systemic issues to connect learning to economic opportunity.  While unique to their own region, together they form the National Talent Network.  The best among them have earned the Talent Hub designation.  Leaders and practitioners must contend with running collaborative processes, designing high-impact strategies, developing sustainable business models, communicating about their work, effective use of data, raising public and private funds, and much more.  These busy change makers need support. Using the Designate, Elevate, and Support model, CivicLab provides communities with access to Communities of Practice, subject matter expertise, technical assistance, capacity building support, and capacity extension.

Across America, people are coming together to improve outcomes in the place they call home.  These cross-sector partnerships are sharing resources, co-creating strategies, and improving systems to make education and talent systems work for their neighbors.  Too often, these places of excellence are hidden from national attention.  Busy with their critical work at home, many partnerships allocate their resources to improving outcomes and do not have the chance to share their successes and stories with a broader audience. Talent Hubs and the National Talent Network elevates leading practitioners and partnerships to the nation’s attention.  Through deep action research and documentation, profiles and blogs, and other products, we seek to share what works, what we are learning, and who is really leading change in America.
